Her training includes Amrit Level 1, Level 2, Yoga Nidra (Guided Meditation), Advanced Yoga Nidra, I AM Yoga Nidra for Kids, and I AM Yoga Therapy. She also leads Integral Breathwork and Let Your Yoga Dance.

Janie Ganga teaches Private Yoga & weekly group classes and she loves helping to make the ancient teachings of yoga accessible to ALL.

History

Janie has been practicing Amrit yoga since 2002. For many years, she enjoyed yoga classes once a week – she found that yoga lowered her stress level, made her body feel healthier, and gave her perspective on difficult relationships.

Her practice deepened in 2011 when major shifts in her life began (at home & at work). Yoga gave her the tools and the practice to enjoy the transformation and the journey. In 2014, she received the yogic name Ganga, which has many meanings – most commonly the Ganges River in India. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see a video when I depicted the Ganga with my hair.

Before her yoga journey began, Janie was an academic, with a dual Bachelor’s in English & American Literature and Sexuality & Society from Brown University (1997) as well as a Master’s in English from Brown University (1999). As she began her yoga training & teaching career, Janie enjoyed working at Whole Foods on Waterman Street in Customer Service & as Local Forager.

In June 2021, Janie Ganga and her business partner Padma Gering purchased Santosha Yoga studio from its previous owners and are continuing to offer online yoga and meditation classes, taught live via Zoom.

Now, she is extremely grateful to share what she’s learned with her friends, loved ones, community, and YOU! Her passion in her yoga teaching is to make the amazing benefits of a personal yoga practice accessible to ALL PEOPLE.

Janie Ganga (she or they pronouns) identifies as queer and has a background in organizing conferences, social events, and fundraisers for queer women, bisexual community, and transgender and gender non-conforming people. It’s their honor to support people of all genders and sexualities.

She believes in Health at Every Size – the simple premise that the best way to improve health is to honor your body. Janie Ganga has collaborated with SHAPE RI to offer size-affirming yoga. She respects people in larger bodies and welcomes them to attend her group yoga classes. She also enjoys working individually with people who want to access yoga but are hesitant. She works with people of many sizes, shapes, and abilities. Yoga is a flexible practice that has so many aspects! She would love to work with YOU to find a practice that supports your life right now.

Janie Ganga invites their students to explore the practice of moving and breathing with their bodies as they are and observing the mind as it is.

Janie Ganga’s guiding intention is: Honor Your Inspiration!

* “The Yoga Therapy components of my teaching are not derived from my status as an E-RYT with Yoga Alliance, but rather are based on my I AM Yoga Therapy Training at the Amrit Yoga Institute, a Member School of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).” The 120-hour August 2018 I AM Yoga Therapy Professional Training is considered a “foundational training” according to IAYT. Since December 2018, I have been enrolled at the Amrit Yoga Institute in an 800-hour Training program with the goal of becoming a fully accredited certified Yoga Therapist under IAYT’s strict standards. During this program, I will continue to offer Yoga Therapy as one of my services as a Yoga Instructor.

Yoga Class Video

This series was held at Top Strength Project, a strength-training gym on the West Side of Providence. It was fun to teach stretching and breathwork (pranayama) to this group. The Trainer there created this awesome promotional video. Thanks Vanessa!

Ganga Hair video

The amazing Stacy Piccolo created this hair design. I came to her wanting to depict the river flowing from the snow-capped mountains to the sea and to put my name in. This was the last and possibly the most 3-dimensional hair co-creation we did, in 2017. She made sure the Ganga was big enough to be seen from a distance! <3

Ganga refers to both a goddess who is a “bringer of spiritual knowledge” and the Ganges River, which flows out from the Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal, part of the Indian Ocean.
